Traveling by Sea

Caledonian MacBrayne run a fleet of well-equipped car and passenger ferries to 5 ports in the Western Isles

Lochmaddy is the port in North Uist and this ferry leaves from Uig on the isle of Skye and takes about 2 hours. The route is shown on the map to the left.  (This ferry also serves Tarbert in Harris). The Isle of Skye is linked to the mainland by a road bridge at Kyle of Lochalsh and a ferry at Mallaig (cars in summer only).

There is a ferry link between Uist and Harris (and Lewis), causeway road links between North Uist, Benbecula and South Uist and a ferry link from South Uist to Barra - so the whole group of isles has links throughout, as well as to the mainland.

Mainland ferry terminals to the Western Isles are Ullapool, Oban.
