Eating Out Good food is to be found throughout the Uists and Benbecula. “Wee cafes” are in all sorts of places and the home-baking of the highlands is renowned – girdle scones, oven scones, pancakes and cakes should be accompanied by a pot of tea ( or coffee) looking out across sea, moors or loch, no matter what the weather. The closest hotels to Tigh Alasdair are and Langass Lodge and Westford Inn. Local Produce Prawns, Crab, Lobster and shell fish from the unpolluted local waters are an island specialty. The Uists boast 2 famous smokehouses – Hebridean Smokehouse on North Uist and Salar Smokehouse in South Uist. Both do fabulous smoked salmon/ roast salmon; you can even post some home to your friends! Excellent meals including local produce are to be had at many island hotels and “pub-grub” is reliably good too.
